Be A part of Norfolk's RIch History
South Creek Retreat, famously known as The Old Chequers, is a historic property with a fascinating past. Originally operating as the Chequers Inn, it served as a central gathering place for the village of South Creake for over 300 years, with close ties to the neighboring Pinchens Brewery.
In 1784, a sale of copyhold land in South Creake was held at the house of Robert Oliver, known by the sign of the Chequer. The inn remained a hub of village life throughout the 19th century, before closing its doors in 1963. Following extensive renovations, the building was transformed into a luxury holiday home, combining modern comfort with its historic character.
Today, South Creek Retreat offers guests a unique experience where contemporary amenities meet centuries of heritage, providing an inspiring setting for both leisure and corporate stays.
